Today everyone and their mother is a fashion blogger. With competition so high, it’s no wonder it’s harder than ever to have a successful fashion blog, right? Wrong. Your fashion blog isn’t unsuccessful because there’s too much competition and not enough work. As the Universal Law of Attraction states, there’s enough abundance to go around. So then what’s the problem?
The problem is you’re doing it wrong… like, all wrong.
problem #1 you’re in it to win it
Fashion has a reputation of being a superficial industry where everyone is in it for themselves, and this is definitely true to some degree amongst bloggers.
As we already learned, there is enough to go around for everyone, so why not embrace this idea and start spreading the love to your fellow bloggers?
If you have this notion that by bringing awareness to another blogger’s blog or achievements is somehow going to take away from you, you’ll never have a successful fashion blog. 9 times out of 10 when you give people publicity they give it right back, which will bring you success. Hence the reason I do Style File Fridays and Women to Watch.
problem #2 you’re not sincere
I know I’ve posted about how to grow your Instagram following and you’ve heard the benefits of collaborating with other bloggers, but if you’re not genuine in your efforts, people are easily turned off.
Look at Instagram and see how many aspiring fashion bloggers comment on other bloggers’ posts with generic comments like “So cute!”, “Love this!”, “Great shot babe!”, etc. It’s so lame!
If you’re going to try to make a name for yourself try a different approach and actually take the time to read the person’s caption and make an informed, sincere comment.
Also, don’t just talk about collaborating and meeting up, make an effort to actually do those things! Follow through with action. It shows you’re serious and that you care.
problem #3 you don’t spend enough time promoting
I’m one of the biggest offenders of this because, quite frankly, it’s friggin’ hard! Marketing and PR are so important if you want to have a successful fashion blog.
Nowadays it’s not just enough to be consistent with killer quality content. There’s an entire strategy for how to get noticed. You should spend 20% of your time creating content and 80% promoting it.
problem #4 you choose quantity over quality
If you don’t know quality > quantity by now, you’re going to run yourself into the ground trying to build successful fashion blog. By cranking out 4-5 blog posts a week and balancing a full-time job, you’re not truly focussing on bringing the best quality content forward.
Instead your goal is to just put as much out there as possible to stay relevant. If you choose quantity over quality you will experience blogger burnout and your blog could fail.
What can you do to make your fashion blog a success? Tell me in the comments below!

03/23/2016 at 8:26 pmSometimes I do think that posting 4-5 times per week is too much because it takes TONS of effort to put the content together, share it on social media, etc. etc. I agree that promotion is very important, but I don’t always find the time to do it…
Saying so, I’d like to believe that the one thing that I can do better now is to be more consistent with leaving/answering comments. That’s what I am concentrating my efforts on now and hope it will be beneficial for my blog and the brand.

03/19/2017 at 2:14 amI only post once a week because its so hard for me since im studying a career and working a full time job and when I do a post I try my best to make it really cool but still not boring. The hardest part is when I start typeing about it since I sometimes dont know what to write about. I usually promote it on fb and somtimes do fb lives when in the doing of the post and they like it but i just feel its not enough… I dont know its a lot of work lol I love the post and thank you I write everything I see its useful 🙂

03/21/2017 at 6:41 amHey Andy! Thanks so much for the comment. As long as you enjoy what you’re doing that’s all that matters. Once it becomes “work” to you, that’s when it’s no longer enjoyable and you should consider doing something else. Blogging is a labor of love! xx

10/16/2018 at 2:20 amAs you said there is much competition but we have to represent your self in such a way that after reading your comment they can follow you. At last, content is the king in this industry.
