Ok so for those of you who don’t know: I currently live at the beach/down the shore in the dirty Jerz, but I will always be a PA girl at ♥.
It’s sometimes comical when I see/hear my out of state friends talk about what they do and where they go when they come “down the shore”, maybe it’s my inner mean girl but I can’t help but think ‘oh you poor thing’. Granted – I’m still learning and I’ve been here for 3 years! I don’t know about you but when I travel somewhere, yes I want to do the whole tourist thing, but I also don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb. So this ultimate traveler’s guide to summer at the Jersey Shore is my gift to you.
Do not bike/walk out right in the middle of traffic – biggest pet peeve. No need to push your stroller, {yes this really happens}, out in the middle of a high traffic road. Wait ’til the coast is clear, look both ways, then cross the street like a normal human being. You are not privileged just because you’re on vacation.
Do not sit on top of another person/people on the beach – you know who you are. Take your umbrella, cooler, speakers, tent, toys, blankets, baby pool, and obnoxious children elsewhere.
Be patient & kind to those serving you. If there’s a line you will wait and sometimes that can be for a very long time. Again, you are not privileged just because you’re on vacation.
♥ Best Places to Eat
Cape May
The Lobster House – plank salmon, unlike anything I’ve ever had
Ocean City
Rojo’s Tacos, 6th & Ocean – shrimp sopes… you’re welcome
Piccini Pizza, 13th & West – buffalo pizza with extra bleu cheese
Hula Grill, 9th & BW – coconut shrimp
Uncle Bill’s, 40th & West – stuffed french toast, (I hope you’re not planning on wearing a bikini after…)
Positively 4th, 4th & Ocean – super hipster vibes with somewhat healthy options
Margate
Tomatoes – super cool NYC lounge vibe
Somer’s Point
Baia – waterfront views & banana bread pudding
Crab Trap – the best crab cakes ever, everything else is pretty average
Atlantic City
Continental – Chilean sea bass with wasabi mashed potatoes will rock your world
Los Amigos – #1 spot for Mexican hands down, get the chimichanga and fried ice cream for dessert
♥ Best Places to Shop
Ocean City (I do most shopping online or at the Hamilton Mall)
Heritage, 6th & West – strictly surfer brands ($$)
7th Street Surf Shop, 7th & Asbury – lots of Free People and surfer brands ($$$)
Love Hanger, Asbury – Wildfox Couture ($$$$)
B&B, 9th & Asbury – surfer brands, unknown brands, shoobie shirts ($$)
♥ Best Places for Nightlife
Somers Point
Baia – Reggae night every Sunday and dance party upstairs after 10, super classy super fun (there’s one bartender who makes a killer mint chocolate martini)
Sea Isle (I honestly stay far away from this place, it reminds me of a sloppy fraternity, but some people are into that)
Ocean Drive aka The OD – if you’re in college and like getting pushed around and drinks spilled on you go on a Wednesday or Fri.-Sat.
Shenanigans – Reggae night every Tuesday, Fri.-Sat. for more hip hop and dance music, a little less sloppy than the OD
Margate
Maynard’s – Wednesdays are good, as are Fridays or Saturdays, you still get some sloppy frat vibes for sure
Avalon/Stone Harbor
The Princeton – super classy and hugeee with a few different rooms so you can move and groove all night
The Windrift – another classy one for the books, attracts a wide range of ages, good music, good drinks (get the “dirty monkey”)
