This week I’d like to introduce our very special Style File Friday guest, Susan Hang of Le Jolie based in North Carolina. Susan’s unique writing style is a mix between personal and professional that leaves you feeling nothing less than inspired. After reading her articles on Zanita, I knew I had to reach out. Here’s Susan had to say about blogging, success, and following your dreams…
Q: How/why did you get into writing and blogging?
I never thought of myself as a strong writer, but it came naturally with blogging which dates back to the days of Xanga and MySpace. I was always intrigued with web design, fashion, and makeup so when I stumbled upon fashion blogging back in 2007, I immediately thought what better way to converse with the like-minded than through blogging… though I didn’t fork up the guts to create one until late 2010.
Q: What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned during your #GIRLBOSS journey?
If there’s something you really want to do, just do it and always put out your best work even when it feels worthless and wasteful.
Q: What do you recommend someone do every day to ensure success?
First, figure out what your definition of success is unrelated to how you think those around you will think/feel. Then, set goals that align with your definition and partake in one activity daily that ties back to your idea of success. Also, spend some time every day introspecting – there’s so much value in being in touch with yourself.
Q: What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone going after their dreams?
Do it now. In 5 years, you’ll wish you started sooner and in 10 years, all the mistakes and roadblocks you made will no longer matter. You might not have the all resources or money available now, but start with what you have.
Q: Where do you see the blogging/digital world headed in the future?
I definitely don’t think “outfits posts” will be a sustainable business and I’m not exactly sure what it will look like since the landscape is changing so fast, but I think everyone will strive create an aspirational lifestyle experience. Also, expect a lot more video content and in general, just an overload of information.
Q: Do you have any regrets, if so what would you tell your younger self in order to bypass an avoidable mistake?
I was always really hard on myself so I would definitely say chill. Also, to be patient… I always wanted everything to happen quickly though it never did. Some of us are made to work harder than others before reaching the culmination of our efforts, but it’s okay. I read the other day, “I keep (my fishing lines) with precision. Only I have no luck anymore. But who knows? Maybe today. Everyday is a new day. It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.” Keep that in your back pocket!
