How to Deal with Feeling Disconnected

how to deal with feeling disconnected

We’ve all been there and we’ll all go there again. When you’re feeling disconnected from one area of your life, it’s easy for the rest to follow suit. It’s extremely difficult to figure out how to deal with feeling disconnected when you actually are disconnected because all you want to do is lay in bed, cry, and eat cake. But guess what? The only way you’ll feel better is to brush yourself off, get it together, and kick some ass. If you’re not quite ready to do all that you can try these things instead:

Phone a friend

Talking out your issues to someone is a great way to get back on track. That’s why therapists, coaches, and psychologists exist (and make a ton of money). It’s nice to get another person’s insight or to exchange stories so you know you’re not alone. No one’s life is perfect and when we have someone to empathize with, it’s not so bad.

If you don’t have anyone to call, search Facebook for a support group specific to what you’re going through and you’ll be connected to hundreds, maybe thousands, of people going through the same thing.

Workout

Working out is clinically proven to release happy chemicals aka endorphins that decrease stress and increase happiness. When you’re moving and grooving you’re motivated to take the steps (no pun intended) necessary to get you out of your funk. There is no better way to connect with yourself than to work out with yourself.

Journal

If you’ve ever read someone’s journal there’s a good chance it was super depressing. When people are feeling good they’re not journaling because they’re too busy feeling good!

The only time you reevaluate and hit the paper is when things aren’t the best… and that’s ok. It’s nice to release all that sadness, anger, and negative energy into your journal, (better to release it there than somewhere else!). Like, I’m talking cursing… writing down the most profound things that would make your mother cringe. It’ll feel good and a weight will be lifted, trust me.

Apply for jobs

Applying for jobs even if you’re not looking for one is pretty fun. It’s scary and exciting at the same time. Your confidence is instantly boosted if the company you apply with wants to interview you. You’ll think, ‘Me? Really? They want me?! Hell yeah!’

Feeling needed is a great feeling and it’s one you’ll get if you apply for jobs. Plus you’re forced to brag about yourself in your cover letter and resume which helps form that bond with… yourself. And who knows, maybe a job change is just what you need.

Start a hobby

Not Another Blonde started as a hobby and has since brought me countless opportunities. Amazing things I never thought could happen, happened all because I started a “hobby”.

And this hobby of mine brings me joy, self-esteem, and purpose. If you’re going to try anything to stop yourself from feeling disconnected, try starting a hobby.

It might just turn into a business and then you’ll have a whole other mess of issues to deal with!

Have you ever felt disconnected? How did you bounce back?
