Whether we want to admit it or not, we all want a super stylish Instagram. When Instagram first came out there was no rhyme or reason for anybody’s posts, Instagram feeds were pretty foggy and unorganized. Now, there’s way more thought that goes into it, as you can actually get paid to post! And as a blogger you acquire a slight case of OCD, (mine’s slightly more than slight), so naturally any secrets for a more stylish Instagram I’m all over and today I’m sharing them with you…
♡ Pick & stick to a theme
This applies to your Instagram feed as a whole AND individual pictures alone. I use the same app and filter every time. I recently switched to A7 on VSCO Cam. I used to use F2 and T2 (too mute), then A6 (too dark).
Some Instagrams have a general color theme, light or dark, black and white, grey tones, blue tones, etc. Fashionlush does a lot of black, white, and minimalism whereas Lush to Blush goes for a super light and a lot of pastels theme. Also, your posts should reflect what you/your business is all about, (food, fashion, travel, art, home, nature, animals, etc.). My Instagram is mainly fashion and food with occasional fitness, home decor, or scenery pics.
♡ Use simple backgrounds for outfit posts
For a while I had a good handle on this when I scored this awesome brick wall at my last apartment. Now I’m in the sticks, literally so you’ll be seeing more greenery and open space, which is definitely not a bad thing!
Your main focus for outfit pics is… yes, the outfit, so you don’t want a super busy background stealing your outfit’s thunder. Simple as that. Plus it looks clean and professional even if you trespassed, ran to catch the golden hour, and ended up next to a dumpster to get the shot.
♡ Play with flatlays & #fromwhereistand
While the same style picture can be cool for some Instagrams, I like variety which is why I suggest some areal view pictures aka #flatlay or #fromwhereistand. You could even get super OCD and do every other picture a #fromwhereistand or #flatlay mixed with your #whatiwore or #wiw full body shot.
♡ Crop ’til you drop
Sometimes pictures that are slightly undone or not all seen are the best kind and just the opposite: sometimes showing everything is overkill. I like clean lines and no distractions.
Say you’re taking a #fromwhereistand and you’re on a sidewalk with grass on one side, or someone else’s foot in the way, or a piece of gum… unless it’s intentional, get rid of it! A picture without the randomness is always better so crop ’til you drop baby!
♡ Nothing is better than anything
As I’ve mentioned before I’m an all or nothing kind of girl and if I don’t have the perfect picture that goes with the theme of my feed, I won’t post anything, sometimes I’ll go days without posting. The rule something is better than nothing does not apply when it comes to Instagram.
Do you have any Instagram secrets? I’d love to hear them!
xx
