When I first started blogging I could dress myself and write. That was about it. My style wasn’t one of a kind and there really wasn’t anything “unique” about anything I was doing or saying. Then I started to really come into my own and find my strengths, realize my talents, develop a strategy, and let my personality shine through. And that’s when things really started happening for me.
That’s when I became a guest contributor for Zanita, when my engagement spiked, and when I had people start to reach out on a more personal level.
talent
Talent is the #1 thing you need in order to really make it as a blogger. Think about American Idol. Contestants only make it through to the next round if they’re talented enough.
Blogging is the same way. Bloggers will only make it to that next phase if they have some level of talent. You don’t have to be talented at everything (though that’s definitely a plus) but you should have one standout quality that you can harness for your blogging career (photography, styling, writing, modeling, branding, etc.).
And as much as I welcome anyone to try blogging, not everyone will make it because they just don’t have what it takes. Some bloggers no matter what you tell them won’t ever have that “it factor” and that’s ok because they’ll have “it” for something else.
So if you’re ever in question with whether or not you can make it as a blogger, examine your talents. Like really get honest with yourself and see where your strengths lie because they may or may not be in blogging.
strategy
After talent comes strategy. I personally think mastering a strategy is harder than finding your talent because talent comes naturally. Strategy is something that is taught and I’m not seeing as many bloggers willing to invest the time or money into learning it as they should. I mean, strategy is everything!
You can’t just blindly go into blogging and expect amazing results… not today at least. Competition is high, social media is tricky, and there is an over abundance of everything so you need, need, need a solid blog strategy.
There are a lot of bloggers who have this outstanding talent that never turns into anything because they don’t have a strategy behind it.
Like what?!
But in their defense, you don’t know what you don’t know, which is why I’m writing this post so now you know!
Your strategy should help you to build a loyal community through authenticity, marketing tactics, and massive value. Plain and simple. The thing to remember is that every blogger’s strategy is different and what works for me won’t necessarily work for you and what works for you won’t necessarily work for me.
You have to get to know your strengths, audience, and end goal in order to create a strategy that works.
appeal
… aka you have to be interesting. Why do you think the Real Housewives were such a hit? Because they were super interesting! And if you think about it, every successful blogger is fascinating. They have some element of mystery, honesty, and drama which makes us keep coming back for more.
If you’re wondering if you’re interesting enough you’re probably not. Just kidding, kind of. But you should definitely ask yourself, do I have enough going on? Am I entertaining? Is what I’m doing interesting?
People who are appealing never question their appeal. They are able to immediately recognize their worth and value they bring to the table. I realize women are hard on themselves so take your insecurities out of the equation and really hone in on your level of appeal.
Don’t be modest, be honest! If you’re a cool ass chick say it loud and proud! If you’re more quiet and reserved that’s fine too, you may be able to make up for it with a mysterious demeanor. Regardless, you really have to truly believe that you’re appealing because when you see it, other people will see it too.
Now, do you have to be an expert on all accounts? Of course not. Part of the fun about blogging is that you grow so much while you’re doing it. But do you have to have some talent, some strategy, and be somewhat interesting? Absolutely.
And the only person who can really decide whether she has what it takes or not… is you.
Which element do you struggle with the most? Comment below and I’ll do the best I can to help you out!

06/20/2017 at 5:09 pmLove this post!! I just started a new blog myself and this is super helpful info! I definitely struggle with the strategy part like…I’m just kinda goin with the flow but I feel like that may catch up to me! What do you think!

06/22/2017 at 3:12 pmI think going with the flow is PERFECT because a lot of bloggers get too caught up in things and try to get too strategic and it actually hinders them from being their authentic selves! Going with the flow is like testing the waters which I always recommend! xx

06/22/2017 at 3:34 pmWe’ve all been there! And we all have our down moments but it’s during those times that you really have to push through so you have a story to tell in the end you know? Has the NAB secret Facebook group helped? xx

06/21/2017 at 11:28 amThe strategy is really the part that takes the most time and people just don’t want to invest! They don’t realize it’s hours and hours of working with no recongition, no $$ until finally you figured it out.
Love this post girl! And I love that you say things that people don’t hear to hear sometimes!

06/22/2017 at 3:44 pmYes Katherine!!! They see the end result of other people and get discouraged when it doesn’t happen for them immediately. Couldn’t agree more. Thanks so much for reading! xx

06/21/2017 at 5:59 pmLove this post! I’m still what I consider new to blogging (4 and a half months) so I still have a lot of growing to do in all three of these areas for sure. But I can tell you my biggest struggle right now is strategy. I think this is because as a new blogger I’m trying to find my talents and trying to find my appeal and have sort of thrown strategy to the back burner so to speak. And it deserves JUST as much attention, if not more.

07/25/2017 at 7:32 pmI am in the process of starting a blog so I am trying to find it all. I have so many things I want to talk about but it doesn’t all fall under one umbrella. So, I’m trying to find what makes me interesting before I actually put a blog out there.
